Eleven objects are dissected in Curiosities, eleven objects belonging to strikingly different scenes with one thing in common: you are present, watching-for example-executives, a chef, escorts and cafe patrons, overhearing their comments, all to conclude something sinister is about to happen. Or has happened. In this collection of short stories, we are at the fringe of events, experiencing the wonders of human behavior-actions that include fingers, a quick turn of the wrist, stilettos, white truffles, redirected funds, idling vehicles, alcoholism, invitations, vacation, a lap dance and some very tasty cappuccino.
The works of Monstrosities dissect the origin of various common objects as peaches, nylon stockings and animal crackers. With eloquence, each highly rich, visual story incorporates the mechanical hardware and human involvement needed to form our modern environment.
More than half of the works in peculiarities are based on philosophical experiments of the French academic Roger-Pol Droit: "Drinking while Urinating," "watching dust in the sunlight," "Pulling Out A Hair," "digesting ground beef" (and several more) immurse the reader in situations where all five senses of the body are engaged to create an experience. Though labled short stories, the works challenge the Mind with their examination of the Body and its functionality.
Examining human behavior, the works in absurdities highlight the irrationality of the everyday using humor and witticism. Repetitive actions in the workplace and home, the emotional joy of coupons, the side effects of using various objects-as an electric can opener or faucet handles-and even war are placed uder microscopic investigation as no other author can do as thefictionist.
